HAPPY TAMIL NEW YEAR 2020

Puthandu or Tamil New Year's Day is well known on the main day of the Tamil month of Chitterai. According to the Gregorian calendar, Puthandu will be held in 2020 on April 14. Tamil New Year's Day is especially celebrated in the state of Tamil Nadu and in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore, among others.

Tamil New Year's Day customs and traditions

Just before Puthandu day, girls upgrade the home with Kolam to welcome prosperity and pleasure. The next step is to clean the house the day before or in Puthandu and set up a tray full of fruits, flowers and various objects that can be considered auspicious. People take natural baths to clean themselves and start again on New Year's Day. Turmeric baths are widespread among girls.

People dress in conventional clothing, greet each other, and offer prayers at native temples. The aarti rituals and the enlightenment of the "saambrani" are an integral part of the ritual. Divine songs and conventional devices are performed in homes to watch the event. Pongal, a particular rice dish, is available to the gods.

The car contest is held in Tiruvidaimarudur, while different occasions are organized in Tiruchirapalli and Kanchipuram, between different locations. Families enjoy a collective private party consisting of a particular dish known as "Mangai-pachadi". The dish is very similar to "Pacchadi", which is a standard sweet delicacy ready in Ugadi and Vishu. It is a combination of various substances, along with brown sugar, bitter raw mango, astringent mustard, bitter neem, and crimson chili peppers. According to Tamil custom, these flavors are believed to reflect the various aspects of life and uphold the truth that one must be ready to face all forms of conditions, whether bitter or sweet, calmly. A wide range of vegetarian dishes are also ready today.

Importance of Puthandu or Tamil New Year

புத்தாண்டு நாளுக்கு சற்று முன்பு, பெண்கள் செழிப்பையும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் வரவேற்க கோலத்துடன் வீட்டை மேம்படுத்துகிறார்கள். அடுத்த கட்டமாக புத்தாண்டு நாளில்  அல்லது அதற்கு முந்தைய நாள் வீட்டை சுத்தம் செய்து, பழங்கள், பூக்கள் மற்றும் பல்வேறு பொருள்களைக் கொண்ட ஒரு தட்டில் அலங்கரிப்பர் மக்கள் தங்களை சுத்தம் செய்ய இயற்கையான குளியல் எடுத்து புத்தாண்டு தினத்தில் மீண்டும் தொடங்குவார்கள். மஞ்சள் குளியல் பெண்கள் மத்தியில் பரவலாக உள்ளது.
